The media are loaded by density—the most dense in the bottom of the tank, the least dense on top. This produces a filter with excellent flow rate and and relatively easy backwash properties that will filter down to ten microns. The most common media mix is (top to bottom): anthracite, filter sand, garnet 30 X 40, garnet 8 X 12, and gravel.

Over the past 50 years, advances in granular filter media water filtration have been achieved by using smaller mesh size sand combined with garnet or garnet/anthracite (multimedia) to achieve a nominal 12 to 15µ rating and to improve bed design and fluidics. High purity zeolite media is now available that achieves a <5µ nominal rating.
It offers superior performance to sand and carbon filters, giving purer water and higher throughput rates with less maintenance required. It has many advantages over sand and can be used to directly replace sand in a normal sand filter. There are three main uses of zeolites in industry: catalysis, gas separation and ion exchange.

Manufacturer of wastewater filtration media. Available with 0.05 mm to 3 mm filter sand sizes. Filters can remove many contaminates such as viruses, heavy metals and pesticides. Suitable for residential septic systems, potable drinking water treatment plants, transportation, sludge drying beds and various other applications.
Natural Zeolite Media for Fine Sediment Filtration. These mixed bed filters usually resulted in filtration down to 10 to 15 microns. More recently, high purity zeolite has become the medium of choice for sediment filtration. Modern zeolite filters achieve a 5µ nominal rating, with a couple of brands claiming to be even tighter.

The efficiency of water treatment by using natural and modified zeolites depends on the type and quantity of the used zeolite, the size distribution of zeolite particles, the initial concentration of contaminants (cation/anion), pH value of solution, ionic strength of solution, temperature, pressure, contact time of system zeolite/solution and the presence of other organic compounds and anions.

As the world's only producer of man-made zeolite, it seems natural that we custom-engineered a synthetic zeolite that's superior to any other media used in the water treatment industry. Crystal-Right's performance is proven in its ability to filter, soften, and neutralize water—it sets the standard in water treatment.
The purpose of the study that is discussed in this article was to compare the performance of silverized GAC and silver zeolite treated GAC in preventing the growth of bacteria in water filters. Granular activated carbon (GAC) has been widely used in water filtration for many years. Although overall ...
